That Job's Not For You!
"That's not for you" is all I ever heard from a very unsupportive father. My sister was always told the same thing too. Made no difference what we wanted to do. She was always interested in Political Science.
Of course that(being told that it's not for us)was when we were much, much younger you believe and trust your father. sad to say my biggest mistake was believing he cared. Oh well!
Thinking back to that time I was too young and too naive to know better.
I still am very seriously interested, even now, in being a Hollywood screenwriter, a songwriter, a newspaper columnist/online journalist/Citizen Journalist, and a photographer.
Or even a legitimate paid blogger(one who respects confidentiality and actually verifies info first). No name-calling of anyone.
Yes, I realize these days some industries will hire you at an older age but I can't help but wonder of the careers I mentioned which one is considered "too old" to start at a certain age?
I'm getting there. At least (maybe) in another 20 or 30 years.
The present job I have, which is not associated with any of my interests, I can't just leave now.
Though if I had the chance, NO JOKE, even now, I'd definitely move to Los Angeles.
Anyways I'd love to hear from people who started the careers I mention at a much, much later age in life. Were you given a chance at a later age in life? Let me know.
Who knows? YOU MAY JUST END UP INSPIRING ME(AND OTHERS)TO PURSUE OUR DREAMS at the age of 40, 50, 60, or 70.
Single People Punished(Financially) When It Comes to Rent
While I'm one of the lucky ones who has a good-paying job I've had for over 20-years(I started at minimum wage way back when), that it would take me 5-weeks to save for first and last month's rent, that's besides the point.
There's an apartment building near me.
1-bedroom $865/month
2-bedroom $980/month (with 2 people sharing it's $490 each).
(and the price of rent isn't just limited to this one apartment nearby).
So, if you can't find a roommate(I gave up looking), you're punished financially for being single. That's just not right! Besides I'm sick and tired of living in basement apartments and it's time for a change.
The Canadian government at all levels(federal, provincial and municipal)should all be ashamed of themselves!
Yeah, they talk a good game about affordable housing.
But that's all it is. Talk. And a game with them as to which level of government is going to look like they care more.
Yet I don't see them doing anything to make sure people can afford a 1-bedroom apartment(most people can't).
They should be, but knowing politicians, I doubt even one of them is ashamed that in a very nice country like Canada they haven't done a damn thing to have affordable housing for people.
It's long overdue for them to stop talking and actually get off their asses and do something about it!
But knowing the track record of the federal, provincial and municipal governments in Canada I won't hold my breath.
Cab Drivers Should Be Upset With Themselves Limo Drivers Allowed to Pick Up Passengers Outside City Limits
Cab drivers at Mississauga's(NOT Toronto's)Pearson International Airport are upset that the province has now allowed limo drivers to pick up passengers outside city limits(can't find that story otherwise would link to it)..
The cab drivers should have thought that was bound to happen sooner or later and they have no one but themselves to blame.
I've lost track of how many times a taxi driver was talking on the cellphone the entire ride (while driving, ignoring the passenger in the back seat).
Also, no exaggeration, many cab drivers have music playing from their culture. A language no one but the cabbie understands.
Cab company bosses ignore these complaints.
Limo drivers are professional and don't talk on the cellphone while driving, and limo drivers know not to play the radio in a language the passenger does not understand.
Normally I'd say it's not right to pick up people if it's outside your city limits but with my personal experience one too many times, I have no sympathy whatsoever for the cab drivers.
The province did the right thing by allowing limo drivers at the airport.
By the way, the media has it wrong. Pearson International Airport is in Mississauga. One day the media will get it right. Did I just say the media will get it right? HA!HA!HA! HA!HA!HA!HA!HA!
